VAULTRA STORAGE – JOURNEY TO BUILDING INDUSTRY LEADING STATE-OF-THE-ART TORONTO FACILITIES
In November 2020, Vaultra Storage opened its new 260,000 square foot, high-security self-storage facility by Castlefield Avenue and Dufferin Street in Toronto. In addition to smart meeting rooms and on-demand workspaces in partnership with LAUFT, the six-storey, climate-controlled building features Wi-Fi, 24-hour access, IP cameras with motion sensors, and dual indoor drive through.
“Our Castlefield site has been designed to ensure that it is a seamless and secure extension of our clients’ home or business,” said Shawn Shanmuganathan, Vaultra co-founder and partner. “More people are working from home and need to create extra space to do that. We fully accommodate their need for full access to their property 24/7.”
On the business side, he notes: “Since COVID-19, businesses have really ramped up their e-commerce capacity. The migration away from a bricks-and-mortar presence has created strong new storage demand. There’s also been a corresponding revision of supply chains and businesses are using storage more strategically in the short- and long-term.”
Vaultra came a long way to where they are presently – building state of art, industry leading facilities. Shawn, along with the company’s other Co-Founder Prakash Gunasingham, started from humble roots of acquiring facilities that were already up and running to upgrade with new technologies and enhanced security standards. From their first location in Lloydminster, AB, they expanded into the Ontario market, acquired 7 more, and recently opened the aforementioned Toronto Castlefield location, the 2nd largest self storage in Ontario in November 2020. Seeing the opportunity in the market, they have transitioned into building and managing their own facilities with another 12 in development while backed by investment company Peerage Capital. As their reputation continue to rise in the self-storage industry, and now experienced operators, the Co-Founders are extending their expertise. Prakash explains, “We are ready to assist other self storage owners who want to be in the self storage business, but that don’t have the time nor the knowledge. We can offer customized management services to cater the unique need of the self storage owners and harness the economy of scale.” Vaultra Storage launched a boutique 3rd party management service in 2019 with 3 facilities already under this umbrella in BC and another two projected to open in 2021.
Giving back has always been a culture the two Co-Founders worked hard to uphold, with constant support in sponsorships and donations to the communities they operate in. More recently, in December 2020, they announced a major company wide partnership with Make-A-Wish® Canada to raise important funds and awareness to help grant life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses. Prakash says, “Social responsibility and giving back to the community is important to us. Children are precious, it is heartbreaking that some of them experience such hardships in their lives. We want to offer our support”.
