OPERATION SECURUS
This is partnership between law enforcement and businesses. It's purpose is to identify, inform and build relationships with businesses that provide a service or a product that may assist a criminal or terrorist group in carrying out an attack.n the summer of 2006, police carried out a massive anti-terrorism sweep in southern Ontario. Seventeen people — 13 adults and four youths — were arrested in a series of June raids. An 18th individual was detained two months later. This group has become to be known as the Toronto 18 and one of the facts found in this case was that there was a large use of Self Storage facilities by this group for their criminal acts leading to terrorism against Canada. Today, this Operation SECURUS presentation will provide Owners, Operators, Managers and Staff with a wealth of knowledge and education awareness tools that will help you to recognize suspicious activities or encounters in your own day-to-day operation of your Self Storage Business!
With the recent events at a Self Storage facility in British Columbia where we saw a massive drug bust, the second presentation that they will be sharing with us today will be from the Gang and Drug Squad of the Vancouver Police Department. We will learn how and why criminals use Self Storage facilities. What the risks are to employees. how owners/managers can assist the police in detection and reporting of suspected illicit activity. This presentation will also include a review of case studies during this presentation.
